The town of Wagait Beach is 140km from Darwin by road – a picturesque 1.3 hour drive.

Or, you can take a short, 15 minute ferry ride from Cullen Bay. Arrange for us to collect you from Mandorah Jetty and take you to the Retreat, which is approximately 4km from the jetty.

Sanctuary By the Sea is a stone’s throw from the beach, tucked away on one acre of tropical bushland, with a native animal thoroughfare enjoyed by wallabies and surrounded by birdlife.

A mineral plunge pool will cool you off mid day or you can float under the stars, enjoying the ambience of rural life, just the sounds of the bush to sooth your tired mind.

In the garden you may find edibles to enjoy including tropical fruits and asian greens, wild spinach and native goodies, with a focus on self sustainability and natural living.

A natural wet season spring meanders through the front of the property which attracts an abundance of wildlife throughout the year.

Open Plan Tropical Living

The open plan living area extends out to an undercover patio with a comfortable couch setting and breakfast bar overlooking the deep plunge pool that sits on the edge of the expansive deck.

Guest Accommodation

There are 2 bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 6, suitable for a variety of configurations including romantic couples getaway, escape weekend with friends or family stay.

The Pink Room features a Queen size bed.

The Blue Room includes a Queen size bed plus a single bed with trundle.

Retreat Facilities

The kitchen has all the amenities you could wish for during your stay including high quality cooking utensils, a comfortable range of kitchen accessories, crockery and cutlery for all occasions.

We provide a range of nut milks, fresh eggs from our chickens, a range of condiments including certified organic coconut oil, olive oil, ghee, salt and pepper. Nearby is a fruit forest where you can pick your own bananas, pineapples and greens in season.

Each room is decorated thoughtfully with high quality furnishings and materials and finished with artwork that has been sustainably made, with a focus on up-cycled, hand crafted and locally sourced.

Pamper Yourself

With a focus on health, Sanctuary on the Sea features a 2 person infrared sauna and an ice/mineral bath that is set up for guests prior to checkin.

The Balinese-inspired outdoor shower is planted with banana trees and ginger plants and guests can while away the day soaking in the tub, listening to the birds sing or enjoying the fairy lights flicker in the tropical foliage.

The plunge pool is set up as a magnesium mineral pool and is sanitised with UV and ozone to reduce chemical usage for your health benefit. Magnesium is known for its healing effects and guests often comment on how well they sleep after an afternoon floating in the pool.

Drinking water is filtered and mineralised and all grey water is recycled to feed the garden and keep the property lush and cool.

An essential oil diffuser will set the mood for your stay and crystals are placed in the bedrooms for ambience and peace.

Environmentally Responsible

Our conscious choice to be mindful of the footprint we leave and explore sustainability options has allowed us to turn our passion into a project that people can actually enjoy.

The house itself is a 2 bedroom eco house, run on solar and rain water, with a composting loo that turns unwanted waste into compost for the garden. Where ever possible, every resource that is used in the house gets recycled and reused.
